Why won’t the washing machine drain?

If water remains in the drum after a cycle, the drain system is the first place to inspect. Coins, buttons and threads can block the filter, while a kinked hose or restricted waste connection reduces flow.

Even with a clean filter, the pump impeller may jam, its motor may weaken or the control signal may be missing. An incorrect level-sensor reading can also prevent spin. Pump noise alone is not enough evidence to replace it.

Disconnect power and prepare a shallow tray before opening the filter. Stop and request service if there is a burning smell, leak or repeated error. A technician checks the filter, hose, pump circuit and level sensor in sequence.
